Update Manager reported this error after successful update last evening: @UPDATEMGR_Short_state_text_check_failed. The Virus DB is 269.21.7/1328 which is similar to the latest update available on AVG website but the last update was 11 March 2008 and not 14 March 2008.

hey man, my avg has started giving me the same error @updatemgr_short_state_text_check_failed any idea how to fix it?
You need to uninstall and install the latest version to resolve the error.
Every time I update with update manager, I keep getting told i need to reboot the system. I have tried uninstalling & reinstalling, but still no change.
Any ideas?
I did not encounter the error again using the latest version.
